Oh, my apologies.... I must have dozed off!

**Blinks sleepily seated in comfy chair beside roaring fire**

I have had a most relaxing couple of months.

Milady wasn't too pleased to have me based so far from the castle, and so I let my lease go at the house I was renting. Milady has provided me with a cottage in the Castle grounds, and I'm staggering distance from the jetty from which I can fish. I've been allowed a holiday from my normal duties, and have just been looking after the castle while Milady has seen to the establishment of several properties in various parts of the mainland. I've yet to visit the beach front property, but am looking forward to getting sand between my toes and going for a paddle.

My vacation came to an abrupt end on Wednesday though when Milady returned having received a message from Master Rafe. He announced that the sale on the Town House had been concluded and that the contents were to be cleared ready for the new owner to take possession as soon as possible. Alice was sent to fetch me.

The door to my cottage banged shut as Alice made her way inside. I opened one eye and saw her lovely face looking at me with a most excited expression. I knew something was out of the ordinary, as she would have usually amused herself with novel ways to get my attention.... cold tea and biscuit crumbs being utilised in various ways. I thought she was going to burst as she hopped from one foot to the other.

"Yes Alice?"

"I'M GOING TO SCHOOL!!"

I winced at the volume of her voice, but couldn't help but smile at the delight evident upon her face. "Oh?" I replied.

"Mistress wants to see you." And she proceeded to 'shoo' me out of the chair and the warmth of the cottage into the hall of the castle.

Milady was sitting in one of the loveseats reading a sheath of papers. As I gazed upon her I was amazed at the change in her. Were it possible to believe, I'd say she was even more beautiful than when I'd last seen her. Her smile was dazzling, and in no time I was simpering like an idiot. Gosh, but I'd missed her.

Milady briefed me on the locations of the new properties and asked me to tour them and make sure that all was as it should be. But my first task was to clear the Town House in Southend. It seems that the new owner was establishing a Maid's School, and that Milady had agreed to be a patron. Now I could see why Alice was so excited.

I made my way to Southend and quickly ensured that everything was packed so as not to delay the new owner in any way. I then made my way back to the castle to put everything into storage. As I catalogued the items and stored them away I was glad to be working once again. Had I spent too much longer relaxing, I might have found it much too difficult to return to my duties once again.

I walked up from the vaults to the main hall, and found the sheath of papers Milady had been reading earlier. I picked them up and made my way to deposit them in the library. There were several details about the new school, and so I had a closer look. I was most impressed with the work involved, and decided that perhaps I should pay Miss Easterman a visit very soon.

A Home of my own

Exciting news! Mayor Lindsay sent a telegram to advise me that one of the properties to which I'd taken a fancy has now come on the market. He sent me details of where to collect a key to view the house, and without hesitation I put on my coat and hat, grabbed the carpet bag and umbrella and made for the station.

I collected the key as instructed from the estate office by the railway station and walked to the house. I stood outside for a good few minutes taking in the ambience of the area. Rummaging in my carpet bag I suddenly realised I'd left my camera back at the Tower, so no pictures today.

Opening the front door I walked in to a lovely sitting room and smiled as I drew open the curtains and took in the view. Opposite the front door was a staircase to the upper level and beside that a door to the kitchen. I went through the kitchen door into a very nice kitchen/dining room. There was also a rear door to a very lovely garden completely fenced in. I smiled at the thought of being able to gossip with the neighbours over the garden fence on sunny days.

I came back into the house and made my way up the stairs. There was a large room at the top with a small balcony overlooking the garden and another room to the front of the house, making this a classic 'two up, two down'. I opened the balcony doors and stepped onto the small balcony and took in the view. The railway track ran across the rear of the terrace just behind the garden fence, but the thing that caught my eye was the sight of water glistening in the sunlight between the trees of the woodland on the other side of the tracks.

Securing the property behind me I left the house with a promise that I would return, and walked to the end of the terraced row. I then crossed the railway track and walked to the woodland. The glistening I had seen from the upper room was a beautiful fishing site. Opening my carpet bag I was delighted to see that I had my fishing rod and bait, and proceeded to have a very enjoyable time fishing from the little jetty. Listening to the birdsong and the sound of the train passing by made for a very relaxing time. I was soon joined by a 12 year old lad by the name of Harold who was a ward of the Mayor. We had a very nice conversation and he seemed most excited at the thought of another resident for the town.

After packing my equipment away, and bidding my new young friend farewell I made my way back to the Estate office by the railway station. I left the key with the clerk there and asked him to inform the Mayor that I would be delighted to take up residence in the house. He smiled and bade me a good day with the assurance that I would hear from the Mayor very shortly. I then made my way to Milady's bankers, 'Dawes, Tomes, Mousley, Grubb, Fidelity Fiduciary Bank' and was delighted to learn that Milady had not only instructed them to provide me with the necessary funds to take possession of the property, but also made a gift of a sum with which to furnish the house. I never fail to be amazed at the generosity of the Countess towards her staff, and bidding the young Mr Banks a cheery farewell planned a shopping expedition!

The Dawn of a New Day

The Countess always left messages for distribution, as well as my instructions for the night, on her desk in the Library. When checking the other night, I found a green box together with a note from Milady. She had managed to obtain the Nightshade potion as mentioned previously. I read her note and found that the potion was only newly discovered, there had been no certain cure for vampirism that could be readily obtainable. There WERE cures out there, but these were very rare indeed, as evidenced by Dr Mason having none at hand at the time I was considering the change. Milady went on to explain that the reason I had been kept as Revenant was in order that I be able to be returned to my human state should I ever wish it. That process was far simpler, and when I inadvertantly became full Vampyre, was the reason for Milady's wrath... she felt that she had truly damned me at that point. Now that the cure was at hand, Milady wanted to make it available to me (I'd never have been able to afford to purchase it), and would stand by me, whatever my decision.
I had already made up my mind. Having corresponded with my dear friends Miss Jameson and Dr Mason, my thoughts had become clear.... I wanted to live out the rest of my days naturally. Although there are certainly fewer days ahead than there are behind, I wanted to be back in tune with the natural order of things.
Opening the box I retrieved the bottle of the stange green Nightshade potion, and made my way to the Turning room, the site of the Embrace when Milady or any in her family bestow the Dark Gift upon others.

It certainly felt strange entering the room knowing that I was about to undertake a reversal of the room's usual function.

I uncorked the bottle and the potion began to react in the air. Not wishing to waste any of the precious liquid I placed the bottle to my lips.....

... and drank the potion until the bottle was dry.

There seemed to be no signs of the potion having worked, but as I felt at the spot of a tickling sensation on my neck, I noticed that my bite marks had gone. I smiled widely, although it is difficult for people to ever notice this act as my moustache being of the 'soup strainer' style, it covers the act.

I made my way to the rooftop. The hour was late and I wished to witness the dawn of the new day, and the symbol of the dawn of a new life. Whereas I would have sensed Milady's approach before taking the potion, I was now quite deaf to her soft footed movements. She called my name, and removing my hat as she came toward me, I bent to greet her.

As I kissed her hand she smiled at me. "I am glad you did this Janus," she said. "I can rest easy knowing that your Requiem has a happy ending."

Milady drew me back to my feet, and then embraced me tightly. "What will you do?" She whispered.
"I serve you Milady, as always, to the end of my days."

I didn't need the supernatural powers of a vampire to know that her eyes had filled with tears. Bidding me a hasty good day, she went to her rest,

As I watched her leave the rooftop I noticed that the walls of the Tower were starting to illuminate, much more than my meagre candle could perform.

I turned to face the sun, and basked in its new born light. I'm not afraid to say, I wept more than a manly tear.

Change is in the air...

The Countess has been keeping herself quite busy lately, and not wishing to get under her feet, I've been spending my time just polishing items and generally keeping the place tidy.

A new mausoleum has been added to Milady's land at the rear of the Tower, and although very simple in its design, I find it pleasing to the eye. Alice was not so sure.....

"Ere, Mr Janus!" She said with a wide-eyed look on her face as she came scurrying into the Library.

I winked at the fish in the bowl on Milady's desk, gave the bowl a last wipe with the duster in my hand and then gave Alice my full attention. "Yes Alice, what seems to be troubling you?"

"Ghosts!"

"You're being troubled by ghosts?"

"Nah! Not yet... but they'll soon be 'ere!"

I raised my eyebrows incredulously. "They sent a telegram announcing their imminent arrival?"

Alice blinked owlishly, "I dunno abaht that, but their 'ouse is finished out back." She looked over both her shoulders before continuing in a quieter voice. "Their graves will soon be there.. and where there's graves... there's ghosts!"

"Is that so Alice?" I copied her by looking over both my shoulders and continuing in a quite voice. "I'll you what Alice, I'll have a word with Milady and ask her to make sure that the ghosts leave you alone."

A look of delight spread across her face. "'Joo fink she'd do 'aht?"

I nodded and smiled at her and she visibly relaxed. "I'm sure she would. In fact, I'll go and see her now." I pocketed the duster and left Alice in the Library with her nose pressed up against the side of the fishbowl making strange fishlike actions with her mouth. As I was now on the other side of her heading towards the stairs, I could see her face magnified from the other side of the bowl, and it was all I could do not to laugh at this huge moonface peering cross-eyed with the opening and closing mouth. I don't do her justice here, for she's a pretty thing really.

I made my way out of the Hall entrance door, bowed to the statue of the Dark Lady and then walked around to the back of the Tower. Milady was just straightening a crest on the gate to the Mausoleum as I stopped and gave my little 'clear of the throat' noise that I do when wishing to get Milady's attention.

Milady turned around with a dazzling smile upon her face. "Hello Janus Dear. Does this look level to you?"

I can honestly say, I've never seen Milady smile as much as I have in the last two weeks, in spite of the troubling things that have been occurring. I looked at the crest, squinted one eye and nodded slowly. "Yes Milady, I think you have it there."

She gave it one final look, and then turned to face me. "Good. Yes Dear, what can I do for you?"

I looked around the small enclosure and noticed that there was indeed room for graves. I explained that Alice was concerned about ghosts and Milady asked me to assure Alice that they would not trouble her if they were to arrive. She then asked what I thought of the new construction. I told her that I liked it, but although I recognised one of the crests (the Ventrue Clan crest) I was not sure what the other signified. Milady explained that it was the symbol for 'The Circle of the Crone', a vampire covenant for pagan vampires. I had heard of it, as I'm familiar with all the covenants, but showed surprise as, of all the clans, it is believed that Ventrue is the one that would be least likely to be involved with that particular covenant. When I voiced this Milady laughed and said, "have you never wondered why we have a statue to the Dark Lady? Janus Dear, I'm Pagan."

I laughed and felt quite foolish and she chuckled as we made our way into the Mausoleum. It was very simple inside: there was a small altar with a flaming bowl placed centrally upon it immediately opposite the doorway; a regal looking coffin to the left; and a very delicate looking stained glass coffin to the right. Milady indicated the coffins and explained that the regal one was for guests, as she was making it a haven for those of our kind who needed a place to rest when far from their usual resting place. The glass one is for her and Miss Viviana. The light cast from the flaming bowl gave a warm look to the place, and I found it to be quite comforting.

Milady placed her hand upon my shoulder and guided me out of the Mausoleum. "Walk with me Janus Dear" she said as we left the building. I noticed the sad look upon her face that I had seen a couple of days ago and knew that I'd find out what had been on her mind. We walked down to the water's edge and looking out across the vast expanse of water Milady told me what it was. It seems that a potion had been discovered that could restore a vampire's humanity once again. Milady had the necessary contacts to obtain a supply when it was ready. She looked me in the eye and asked me straight out. "Janus, if I were to get this potion... would you wish to be human once again?"

Goodness, what a question......

Let it snow.....

The Countess has taken up fishing. Milady and Miss Viviana are quite addicted to this fascinating past time. Milady even bought a fishing boat, and if they go to a location other than the Isle where the new clan's Chapter House is situated, then they look quite odd indeed fishing in their cloak and hood. The fishbowls in the Tower are quite pleasing though.

With Milady being otherwise distracted, she has allowed me to wander a bit more than is usual. Having been turfed out of my previous room, and there being no real room for me at the Tower to have my own area, I have been considering renting rooms elsewhere. Sunday saw me travelling back to the beautifully scenic Victoriana Square. I DO love this place, and was quite taken with some terraced houses on a previous visit. Unfortunately, the type of letting that I'm interested in is quite in demand. I was most pleased to see the Mayor though in the Lettings Office, and having explained my predicament to him, he has assured me that should anything suitable come up, he will be sure to telegram me. I would feel most at home here.

Mayor Lindsay also took the time out to educate me in one of the customs of his town. I was surprised to see snow on the ground and he explained that the citizens of the town celebrate a Mini Yule Festivity at this time in the year. It really was most welcome, and VERY picturesque. If you're a little fed up with the heat in your part of the world, it really makes for a very refreshing time to take a sleigh ride in the snow.

The following day while updating Milady with my previous day's travels I noticed a most enigmatic look upon her face. I joked with her that she must be thinking about 'the one that got away', and she smiled politely (as she does whenever I make a poor joke), but I caught a sad glint in her eye as she looked at me. As she wasn't forthcoming volunteering any further information, I decided it would be prudent to let the matter drop for the time being.... but I WILL find out what is on her mind, I'm sure of it.

Servants and Serving

Last night the Countess received a message from a friend about a sale that was taking place involving hairstyles. Milady had just put to port with Miss Viviana in an area they had been exploring, when she shared this information with her. Miss Viviana was 'off like a whippet', and Milady returned to the Tower to complete some work.

When Miss Viviana returned, a tall gentleman was with her carrying her boxes. She introduced him to Milady as SlippersFetcher Voom, a butler and personal valet by trade. Seems he is looking for a permanent post, and was hoping that Milady and Miss Viviana might be able to point him in the right direction. Miss Viviana had already briefed him as to my service and exploits, and it was agreed that his best step would be to get in touch with me.

I spent a VERY pleasant hour this afternoon in his company. We met up at one of Milady's town residences and compared notes and techniques. Slippers is very versatile in his service, and is ideally looking for a permanent position in an active household, preferably one that has activity during the daytime hours. Anyone interested in having their own butler, please get in touch with him.

I have to admit to feeling somewhat smug yesterday when I erected the new statue to the Dark Lady in the forecourt of the Tower. Milady was so pleased when I managed to find a replacement to the one that was taken from the land. I prepared a new stand and some burning bowls for it, and Milady made a new plaque.

A wonderful couple of days indeed.... the Dark Lady back in her rightful place.... a beautiful smile from Milady.... a new friend and fellow butler.... and a hug from Miss Viviana!! Unlife is good.... and I think I've grown a few inches in height too....

Facts and Factions

It has been an eventful few days.

Clan wars have started in the Vampire community, with one very large clan dominating the upper echelons. A couple of the other larger (but not as large as the dominating one) clans are trying to merge in order to combat it, and ideas are being put forward to try and prevent the manipulation that is taking place.

The Countess was approached by both sides to try and garner her support, and Milady made it very clear to both that she was not going to get involved, other than to advise 'The Powers That Be' of possible solutions to the manipulation.

Due to forces at play within her own clan, Milady saw no alternative but to disolve the clan and to allow the two factions within it to strike out on their own. I'm not going to go into the details here, as I don't think that this is the place to do so, (politics, eh?) and should you be interested in any way, I know that Milady is happy to answer any questions that people have.

We were served notice to quit the Motherhouse by 5pm ..... the landlord decided not to wait and everything was turfed out at about 11:30am instead. I'm hoping that my books have not been damaged in the hurried packing... I still need to check the packing crates.

Milady has gone to a very old clan.... old and dusty, and quite dead. There were three remaining members, the leader and two minions, and all three of those were as dead as the clan. This was just what Milady wanted. She has no agenda, and has the peace and quiet to heal.

Many of Milady's childer have sent messages of support, and she has been most encouraged by those. She has sanctioned the use of the clan name to one of the factions, but did turn down the offer of the leadership role within it.

So, to all my brothers and sisters within the old clan, I wish you well, and hope that all will work out as you hope. Milady, Miss Viviana and I, are looking forward to a new future.

Muses and Musings

The present from the Countess that I have mentioned previously, (the reading pillow) has been put to great use these last few days. Milady stirred from her rest in the early hours of Monday to find a note from her consort, stating that her travels were complete, and that she had returned home, and would see Milady when she arose from her rest once the sun had set.

To hear a 200 year old vampire squeal with excitement is a very strange thing indeed. Milady was delighted to find that her consort was waiting patiently for her as she opened the lid to her coffin. I smiled at hearing the sound, and decided that it would probably be for the best to leave them to each other, and so bid a hasty retreat to my room at the Motherhouse.... hence the pillow usage.

The next day, whilst attending to my duties at the Motherhouse, Milady's consort arrived. She thanked me profusely for having placed the chaise in the High Tower, and it seems that they had a most enjoyable night, especially the shopping that occurred. Something to remember: as much as vampires like to lounge, the one thing that will truly put a spring in their step is the opportunity to shop... clothes probably being a favourite of both sexes. I'll come back to this in a little while as I don't want to digress too soon. I was delighted to see the young lady and thought I was being most proper in my address of her. I noticed a strange look appear in her eye when I addressed her as 'Mistress'. I'm quite particular, I do like to accord the proper respect, the Lady Rachel I usually refer to as 'The Countess' or more often, 'Milady'. Milady's First-born, Laura Anne is always referred to as 'Madame'. So, I thought that Milady's Consort, Viviana, should receive the honourific 'Mistress'. I'm most pleased to find that Miss Viviana is not one to hold back if something is not to her liking, and she let me know that this title was certainly NOT to her liking. I was devastated to have caused her distress and apologised profusely. It seems that that title has other connotations where Miss Viviana originates, and having explained this to me, I was more than happy to redress the situation, and we agreed that 'Miss Viviana' ('Miss' being the title I confer on all Milady's female childer) would be the address that would be acceptable. I DO like plain speakers, they make things so much easier. Nothing worse than 'beating around the bush' and compounding problems by not speaking out. I like this young lady very much.

Being at the Motherhouse, I was able to join in with some of the other childer in a very enjoyable game of 'SLopoly'. Madame started the ball rolling, and we were joined by Master Aurelius, who was experiencing a most terrible connection to reality, and had to keep dipping in and out; Milady's new Sword Master, Miss AJ, a most cunning player off the En Garde field as she is on it; and Miss Ash, who has to be one of the most delightful young vampires it has ever been my privilige to meet. I employed my usual tactic (more as a necessity than an actual strategy) of collecting the four 'Telehub' locations, where the rent price increases with each acquisition of the like property. If memory serves correctly, Master Aurelius was the first casualty to Madame's massive building programme. The delightful Miss Ash was next to go (who would visit me now in the cornfield?) and then me. Miss AJ lasted another few rounds but unfortunately was not up to Madame's machinations. A VERY enjoyable experience I must say!

So, with Miss Viviana's return, Milady has been most kind and insisting I take it easy for a little while. It HAS been most pleasant to put my feet up and catch up on some reading. 'The Duchess and the Diamonds' has been most exciting!

Remember the digression earlier?... Vampires love to shop? I see you do, good. AS well as reading, I've also been pondering. Yes, Butlers, as well as ladies, can multi-task. Vampires are most particular about their 'look'. Milady has often said "I have such beautiful childer", and she does, no doubt about it. All of the childer that I have seen Embraced (where they turn from human - revenant - vampire) have been young. They've all been fairly attractive to start with, but once they have received the 'Dark Gift' (vampirism) they really do seem to blossom, and very quickly too.

Now, most of what WE know about vampires is handed down verbally. It would be very silly indeed to publish any sort of difinitive guide to being a vampire, as it would totally blow the 'Masquerade' (the strategy whereby all vampires deny their own existence, and pretend to be human). As a result, we quite often discover new things about ourselves. This is further complicated by the fact that all the various clans have their own 'quirks', distinctive powers and abilities that might be exclusive to that particular clan, or may be to just a few and not all. So what about this journal? Am I not 'spilling the beans' by putting things to paper? Of course not, I'm just an old fool and these are simply the ramblings of a madman. *Winks*

So, to develop this train of thought further.... remember I said about my greater speed since becoming full vampire? Also, the ease of moving the chaise to the High Tower? What if.... a major difference between revenant and vampire is the vampire's ability to regenerate? I was drained and made revenant as an old man. Whilst remaining a revenant, I simply remained in the state I was when made. As a full vampire now, will I regenerate? Will I become younger? Will I too, start to blossom? I have further to go to reach my 'blossom period' so perhaps it will take longer, but I have to admit to being somewhat excited about the prospect. Watch this space!

Just what Saturdays are for

I knew that the deadline for the items on the list the Countess had left for me would be the end of the weekend, so in keeping with another of the wonderful Butler pearls of wisdom - 'Never leave important tasks to the last minute', I set out to source the items.

I returned to the wonderful furniture emporium of Fatima Ur, where I had purchased my rather pleasing trolley. There were some very nice loveseats there, but nothing that I could find fitting for the Top Tower. I knew that there was some furniture in storage that could do the job quite nicely, but would require something more to make them fall into the category of 'loveseat'.

Milady has some wonderful cushions at the Tower, and so using my excellent powers of deduction *ahem* I discovered their origin. I made my way to the Heavenly realm of Pillow Talk. They have some very nice pillows, but the best way to find out what ones are most suited to Milady's requirement was to have a companion to help me try them out. This is a most tricky situation for a servant.... if I call ones of the maids to assist me, I could be accused of abusing my position of Butler, and, of course, I can't really expect the few young ladies of my acquaint to 'snuggle' with an old man... we're just not on those sort of terms. And to be seen 'canoodling' with an old boy, all be it for the most altruistic reasons, just does no good at all for a person's (I believe the term used these days to be..) 'Street Cred' (sounds like something you step in), they'd have to be mad.

'Poor Dara' very kindly answered my call, and we spent what was not an unpleasant (for me!) half an hour or so trying to locate the right pillows. We then sat by some daisies which very cleverly enable you to sit on the ground in a variety of ways, most useful when the ground is not really ground level, and she updated me with her latest adventures.

Thanking 'Poor Dara' profusely, I left her talking to a tree and made my way back to The Tower. Milady had risen when I returned and so I took the item from storage that I considered to be most suited to the task, and lugged it up the stairs to the Top Tower. Being Vampyre now makes these once arduous tasks so much easier. We placed the chaise, and I plumped up the pillows and placed them upon it. Milady was then quite insistent that they be placed correctly and bade me assist her in placing them. The next few minutes, being in such close proximity to Milady were the happiest I have spent in a VERY long time. Closing my eyes I could almost feel as though it was my beloved Jane there in my arms.... but that is another story.

Satisfied that all was ready for her friend's return, Milady requested that I accompany her to a fashion show to which she had received an invitation. First, we had to make our way to the Clan Motherhouse so she might ensure that all was well with her childer.

As we arrived at the Motherhouse, Milady requested to see my room. I led her to it and was then delighted as she presented me with a new pillow for my bed that enables me to read whilst relaxing. Milady then left me trying it out as she made her way to the Arena to watch the progress of the training of some of her Honour Guard.

We then made our way to SLIllustrated for the fashion show. A designer that Milady favours, Mr Nix Sands, was showing some of his new range as well as a couple of other very respected designers. Milady made herself comfortable and I took my place standing behind her seat as is usual. Milady turned her head, and smiling patted the seat next to her. This really was turning into a most pleasant day. No sooner had the show started, that I noticed a glaze appear over Milady's eyes and knew her to be in contact with one of her childer. When her eyes cleared Milady seemed most excited. It seems that two of her childer had entered an En Garde tournement that was about to start. Whispering quickly to me, she requested that I stay for the fashion show and join her once the show was over. She then disappeared in her usual plume of smoke, and I settled to a nice hour of having to look at some very nice apparel, worn by some very pretty people. It's a hard task, but someone has to do it *winks*.

After the show I contacted Milady's First-Born, LauraAnne in order that I might join them. She very kindly obliged and I found myself in the Edward Partridge Stadium for the En Garde Tournement. The second round was commencing and both Milady's childer were due to start. I made myself comfortable and followed Miss AJ's match which was very exciting indeed! Milady was watching Master Jeffrey's match and through the use of Madame LauraAnne's arcane arts, she was able to provide me with 'her essence' through which I could both relay the results of the match I was watching, and receive the results of the match they were watching.

Miss AJ won her match, but Master Jeffrey was foiled (pun) in his attempt, losing to the eventual winner of the competition. I understand from all that witnessed the event that he fought most valiently and made the winner have to work for it.

We then all made our way to another location within the stadium to view Miss AJ's next round. Another very exciting match took place. While were were watching, Madame LauraAnne asked if I had brought along any refreshments. Never leaving the Motherhouse without my trusty carpet wallet (so much smaller than a carpet bag, but able to hold just as much!) in my pocket, I was then able to wheel out the most pleasing trolley and adorn it with blood for the vampires, and whisky and port for Master Deej who is Lycan. It made for a very civilised outing, and Milady was most pleased that a number of her childer had come along to support the others competing.

Miss AJ won her round, and was then drawn to compete in the semi-final with the lady who defeated Master Jeffrey. We relocated once again, just across the lawn to another area. It was a VERY exciting match! Miss AJ rallied well, coming back from her opponent's early lead, but despite it being very close, Miss AJ lost to the lady who went on to win the final. An excellent time was had by all, and I think that there will be future excursions of this sort within the clan.

Milady noticed that one of her childer that had turned up to support, was listed on the world leaderboard. He is not a visitor to the Motherhouse, being located with his particular line some distance from it. He admitted to Milady that his circle had taken to En Garde, and so would be happy to represent the clan at the next tournement.

The hour was growing late, and so Milady allowed me to make my way home. I appeared in my room at the Motherhouse and got ready for bed. What a marvellous day! I had experienced the company of wonderful people all day, received assistance from, and provided assistance to them.
I looked at my pillow that Milady had presented me, and as I was about to climb into bed, I noticed on my bedside table, a beautiful pager bell. Madame LauraAnne had given me a lovely present of a bell that shows people when I am around, and allows them to call me if they need my assistance.

Life is good... and unlife, as one of a large family of Vampyre, is better.

Rest in Peace

One of my favourite ways to unwind is to tend the gardens around the Countess's Tower. I can often be seen in the moonlight wearing my leather apron and Caledon pith helmet, on my hands and knees on the grass. It gives me time to reflect for there is very little to do in the way of work in the garden. This morning, before going to my rest I was there again. I've now made the decision to welcome my change in circumstances, and can honestly say that I'm in peace about it all. Milady's mood has been excellent these past few days, I really cannot remember having seen her smile so much.
Alice, one of Milady's maids had arrived at the Tower early. She's human, but bears the marks of being in Milady's service with two small bite marks upon her neck. She came out of the Tower bearing a note in her hand which she presented to me with a smile. "'Ere y'ar ducky" she said as she handed me the note. I looked at the item, and saw my name written in Milady's most elegant handwriting. I broke the green wax seal and opened up the parchment and read the contents with interest, short though the message was, it seemed to impart the undertone of a major change ahead.
Alice continued to loiter, and didn't bother to try and read what was written on the page, for the only words she could recognise were my name, and her name. I've tried to teach her to read, but she's quite uninterested, and is happy enough being able to read the names that she can.
"Wossit say?" She asked with a great deal of interest. I narrowed my eyes and looked at her carefully.
"It's a request from Milady to purchase some items for the Tower... not really very different from all the other notes that you have passed to me before. What makes you think that this one could possibly contain anything different to the others?"
"Ther's anuvver wun".
"Another note? For me?"
She shook her head. "Nah, s'got a diffrent name on it... dunno oo's it is tho.. not seen it b'for." She winked as she added, "S'got a ribbun roun' it."
I couldn't help it, my eyebrows raised. "The Library?" I asked. Alice nodded vigourously.
Clutching the note from Milady I ran into the Tower and up the stairs to the library. I was pleased to note that where Alice could keep up with me before, with my new Vampyre status I was quite faster, and had the door to the Library shut and locked before she was within sight of it.
"OY!!" She bellowed from the other side of the door as she pounded upon it.
"I'm sure there is plenty for you to do Alice, I'll let you know what is going on in good time." I could hear her muttering as she made her way back down the stairs to the Hall.
I read Milady's note once again and then looked at the desk. Just as Alice had said, there was a neatly folded piece of parchment, bound with a green ribbon and sealed with green wax and bearing the seal of Milady's family. The silly girl had obviously picked it up and looked at it, but had returned it to the desk with the seal uppermost, and the address face down. I turned it over and read the name on it. No surprise really, and a small smile appeared on my lips. Returning it to the desk, this time the right way up, I noticed a new picture portrait in a frame leaning against the desk lamp. It was the addressee on the letter. I looked back down to Milady's note and read the item at the top of the list: 'I need a loveseat, for the High Tower'. I nodded and muttered to myself... "Well Janus old fruit, looks like you're going to be looking after another too." I couldn't help but break out into a grin.

Second Thoughts

The Countess had left me instructions to purchase a new coffin for the Tower. Milady felt that she needed one of the type she uses at the Motherhouse that have a lockable lid after discovering a squatter using her one located in the High Tower at her private residence. Milady discovered the squatter when making a lightening visit to the Tower with her Seneschal, and unable to rouse him from his torpor, the ladies duly ejected him from the coffin and left him with his nose against the outside wall of the town square. Having recently had a conversation with one of her neighbours, Milady lamented the scarcity of sheep for some sort of photographic high jinx.

It was a great surprise to Milady to discover the squatter back the very next day. Unfortunately for the uninvited guest, Milady was accompanied by her Honour Guard Captain, an absolute giant of a vampire that Milady refers to as her 'tree'. He disposed of the squatter, and I was then tasked with disposing of the old coffin and getting the new one.

So, having secreted the new coffin in a much better location, I was tidying up when 'Poor Dara' arrived for a visit. 'Poor Dara' is one of Milady's childer, who unfortunately has been cursed with the 'Affliction'. To use her own terms, she is basically 'barking mad'. A very lovely girl nonetheless, the 'Affliction' can result after a particularly traumatic 'Embrace' (transformation from human to vampire). I DO know the reason in 'Poor Dara's' case, but this isn't really the time to divulge it. Anyway, she came in and was, not unusual for her, chuckling to herself. I enquired after her well-being and she then delighted in telling me of an encounter she had just had where another vampire unknown to her, had tried to make a withdrawal of her blood without so much as a 'by-your-leave'. 'Poor Dara' refused in no uncertain terms, and then spun around and grabbed the vampire by the throat and raised them in the air so that they were left kicking helplessly. This particular move is one that is only taught in Milady's clan and so scared the other vampire witless. Others observing the altercation were reduced to fits of laughter, and when 'Poor Dara' let the vampire go, the offender made a very hasty retreat from the scene. I have to admit to having been very impressed with 'Poor Dara' and the way she had handled the situation, and realised that had she been Revenant, the story would have had a very different outcome. Definately something to think over.

Some time later, Milady came home and fairly waltzed into her library. She had a very dreamy expression upon her face and handed me a picture she had obtained for me.

Apparantly Milady had taken a trip out with some of her childer. One of her latest childer had taken them to view some art works where the artist makes a 3d picture in which you can walk! I cannot imagine such a thing, but Milady had been suitably impressed, and arriving at the third site three young ladies wearing very little clothing were also visiting. Knowing of my appreciation of a 'shapely ankle' Milady obtained the image for me. I have to admit, I DO prefer seeing a little less flesh, but that's my own personal preference. Conversations were struck up between the two parties, and an invitation was made for the vampire party to 'help themselves' to a drink. Not needing a second invite, Milady and two of her party were able to partake of the offer. Milady then laughed as she told of the dancing that then took place, and the girls invited Milady's party to a club. They all had a thoroughly good time, and while all the others 'got down' (?) and 'boogied', Milady and her new childe tangoed into the small hours. Milady smiled at the thought, and said to me, "you should have been there Janus Dear, you'd have had a wonderful time." She then realised what she had said, and her face fell somewhat. Then her eyes flashed open and the smiles returned to her lips as she said, "you know, being a vampire might be the best option for you afterall." She winked, and made her way to her coffin, having placed another picture upon the wall as she went. I heard her hum as she climbed the stairs, and I do believe that she danced her way up there.

I sat down in one of the armchairs and gazed at the picture she had placed, and have to admit ... for Milady to have suggested that I stay as Vampyre she was certainly over the shock of the change, and the idea did appeal... perhaps I have no need to trouble Dr Mason afterall.....

No Luck As Yet

The brightest piece of news in my 'unlife' at the moment is the fact that the Countess has forgiven my transgression. **Looks around to ensure no one is eavesdropping** Whilst it is said that her temper can be fierce, the upside is that once the storm has passed, then no more is said. Milady is not one to bear grudges, and after voicing her displeasure (I actually prefer it when she shouts, the quiet menace she can exude is MOST unsettling) the matter is usually finished as far as she is concerned.
I spent most of the weekend trying various methods to return my status to Revenant, but alas, to no avail. I am still Vampyre. I think I need to explain the difference, as I see it, between 'vampire' and 'Vampyre'. I tend to think of the defining statements to be as follows... "I am a vampire" and "I am Vampyre". A vampire is a bloodsucker, a bat, the loan shark down the road with the high interest rates, etc. A Vampyre is the specific species, the recipient of the Dark Gift, perhaps even a racial description. As I say, that is my view, and it helps me to differentiate.... but I digress.
With my efforts to return to Revenant having come to nought, I think I need to make an appointment with Dr. Darien Mason to see if his method will provide the cure I need.
I will keep you informed.

Whoops-a-Daisy

I've been laying low. The Countess was not pleased with me.
Sunday night, Milady was irresistably drawn to the Prop Spinners Pub in Caledon Steam SkyCity as they are having a series of 'holiday' parties in the month of July. Sunday (almost July) was a Halloween theme, and so Milady 'went as she was'. She delighted in the fact that she could watch out for people arriving and shout 'Happy Halloween!" as they stood taking in the scene, approach them with her fangs glinting in the party lights, and they would bare their necks quite happily for her being in the party spirit. Likewise, those that were already there who then stopped dancing for a moment, got the "Happy Halloween!" cry and bite too. The only ones that were safe were those dancing all the while the Countess was there. Fortunately, it didn't look too much like a scene from 'They Shoot Horses Don't They?' with people having realised that if they stopped dancing, they'd get bitten, as Milady wasn't there too long.
I duly arrived in SkyCity to collect Milady. I tried to unload the Hansom Cab, but the world being as it is on a weekend, was having none of it. So I walked to the pub, and summoned Milady's Lift. This is what we English call, what you refer to as an Elevator, and is also the term used when the means of getting home arrives to collect you. In the Colonies I believe they refer to this as 'my ride', but in England the term is "My lift has arrived", hence the pun.
The Lift/Elevator is a wonderful device and variation of the TARDIS, (available now from Wilber's Curios & Antiquities - Caledon Southend). Milady bid her friends goodnight, climbed in the lift and laughed delightedly as the lift 'pinged' as the doors closed. We then dematerialised from SkyCity.
Back in Milady's Tower the Seneschal was awaiting us. I unloaded some new casks of blood and set them up ready for distribution to Milady's personal staff. She's wonderful like that, knowing that our duties restrict our ability to spend time hunting for our blood allotment to combat the daily curse, she makes sure that our needs are provided for. Milady was happily chatting with the Seneschal whilst I moved the casks about. I then started to transfer my allotment from the cask to my own personal cask. I was daydreaming (should that be nightdreaming?) and quite taken up with listening to Milady's happy chatter and laughter, and REALLY not giving the matter the attention it deserved. All of a sudden a swirl of black clouds surrounded me and I started to elevate (without the lift!). Milady screamed in anger as she saw the clouds and me starting to rise - I had taken too much blood and had therefore made the transformation from Revenant to Vampire. If my heart were not breaking at the sounds of Milady's distress it would have been a wonderful experience.
So, 'Revenant Butler' no more..... now 'Vampire Butler'. I don't know if this is how things will stay, but the thought of a stake in the heart and the draining of my vital blood really doesn't appeal. But Milady is softening to the idea.... so we'll just have to see.....

En Garde!

The Countess, in her love of things Victorian and genteel, has introduced the superb 'En Garde' fencing game to the Clan. A couple of her childer have really taken to it, and the first tournement has just started with the winner receiving ten litres of the finest blood. To a vampire, that's 40 nights without having to hunt, so quite a rest for them.... hmmm, an opportunity for them to 'lounge'.
The Clan's team name (Liberi Atrum) has started to appear on the global scoreboards, and Milady is very keen on the team being available for the next En Garde rally. So if this event happens to be held in your neighbourhood, don't worry TOO much at the sight of a few vampires emerging from the mists.

The Kindness of (some) Vampires

As the Countess spends most of her time at the Clan Motherhouse, the Senechal very kindly provided me with quarters there, in the Coach house at the rear of the Main Hall. The Seneschal and the Dracarius also decorated it for me too, and I have to admit to being most touched by this very kind act.

I've furnished the quarters, and also placed some of my 'clutter' about, so it has a very 'homey' feel to it. My copy of the Caledon Strand magazine sits on the footlocker at the end of my bed, neatly covering one of my Victorian 'Art' books of scantily clad maids. This is jokingly referred to as 'Janus's Porn Stash', but they've not seen what's locked away in the safe. **Clears throat**

The Motherhouse is a very fine looking building, the design of which is based upon Robert Louis Stevenson's house in Scotland. It also has a lighthouse lantern in the tower, which is quite handy as the Motherhouse is situated upon the coast of one of the newer pieces of mainland. There is a lot of beach around it, and I can sometimes wander there with my shoes and socks off letting the sand get in between my toes. Even the young vampires don't tend to use the beach and they CAN stand the daylight, but I'm not complaining, I like the solitude. I'll occasionally see the two young gypsy Lycans sitting alongside their campfire next to their beautiful caravan. The very pretty Seana will tell your fortune with her tarot should you cross her palm with silver. It's nice having someone else awake there during the day.

The Clan has opened its doors to also welcome other 'Creatures of Darkness', and not just the Vampire 'Children of Darkness'. As I mentioned, Seana and her love are Lycan, which, in case you're not familiar with the term, are Werewolves. There are also Zombies joining the clan, which can make for a very scarey time if you bump into some in the crypt.

A new addition next to the Main Hall is the Gallery Pavillion. This contains a collection of portraits prepared by the Seneschal, and makes for fascinating viewing. But in the middle of the Pavillion is a beautiful statue of Milady in her trademark cloak and hood. I was quite taken aback when I was granted a preview showing by the Seneschal, and I predicted Milady's reaction perfectly. When she was shown the statue, with the very moving words on a plaque at the foot of it, she cried. Having recently fed, her tears were blood red, and left red streams down her cheeks. It is rare to see her let her guard down like this, in fact, I can only remember seeing her cry on 4 other occasions in all the years that I have been in her service. But it really did touch her, and is a most tremendous testimony of the love that her childer have for their Mother.

So, there is the news of how Milady and I have both been touched recently. And both times it was due to the thoughtfulness and consideration of Milady's childer. It's nice to know that even the deadliest of monsters can have a soft side. Could make you sleep easier.... but I'd still not go outside on your own during the night if I were you.

A Very Pleasing Trolley

Today should not be considered a 'no news' day. On the contrary, I have been quite bursting to tell you about this for some days now.
The Countess loves to entertain, both vampire and human. Vampires are fairly easy to cater for.. get a stock of good quality blood and they're happy. Get a stock of low quality blood, and they're still happy.... maybe just not as much.
I was dispatched a few days ago to stock Milady's cellar, both for her private residence and also for the Clan Motherhouse. I found a very nice bottled blood, with smashing goblets. (I should clarify here, the goblets are not FOR smashing, it's merely an old English expression meaning 'really jolly good') I also found a very nice Absinthe, some whiskey, sherry, port, and a whole load of beverages for the human guests.
Vampires LOVE to lounge. Show a vampire a comfy chair, and they'll sit there happily until the sun rises (give them blood too, and they'll take root). So, the problem is: we have a load of chairs, but very few table/shelf spaces for setting out refreshments. The few tables there are, usually have candles and the like on them, making it difficult to set a tray of drinks out.
I needed a trolley. I had something in mind.... decorative, the kind that would attract admiring glances, and able to be wheeled out at a moment's notice, and then be adorned with drinks of various types. I steeled myself for a very long search.
The first store I went to had a wonderful selection of furniture. I amused myself for some time just wandering around, half looking at the chairs, but really hoping to catch a glimpse of a trolley. I toured a couple of floors, was standing upon the balcony looking down onto the floor below, and there it was.... the very pleasing trolley. I ran down the stairs and made my way to it, and as I approached it glistened under the shop lights... enticing me, filling my head with images of it adorned with drinks of various colours, in bottles both plain and functional, and exotic and delightful. I had found it, and my heart leapt.
I now owned a very pleasing trolley, and basked in the admiration and delight of the onlookers when I first wheeled it out. The glow I experienced still has not left me.
For your delight, I now present, a very pleasing trolley.
If you're left cold by this picture, show it to your servants and watch their reaction. It's a 'Downstairs' thing.

A Trip to the Seaside

One of the Countess's childer has recently moved into Caledon Southend. He had registered his interest with the Caledon Guv'nah as soon as he had learned of the intention to establish a region of this name. Milady, ever supportive of her childer's efforts, bade me escort her to the establishment. We arrived at the pier in Southend, and were most impressed with the style of the architecture, and also of the unique ferris wheel by the pier. As it was dark, we were able to stroll and take in the sights, and we eventually came across 'Wilber's Curios & Antiquities', the establishment of Milady's childe. Rafe made us most welcome and showed us around the premises. He informed us that originally he had intended to have a town house in Southend, but having been shown the various styles available, chose one with a ground floor most conducive for sales. He then went on to remind Milady that he had always wanted to be a 'shopkeeper'. Rafe's wife LauraAnne, (also Milady's Clan Seneschal) is a most gifted creator of items, they are hoping that with her creativity, and his travelling penchant, they will be able to establish a stock of most unusual items.

Having had an enjoyable time, Milady decided we should make the most of the night and journey to Caledon Cape Wrath by Hansom cab in order to catch a boat back to Winterfell. It is at moments like this that I tend to earn my pay. Having anticipated Milady's request, I had had the Hansom stowed aboard the ship on which we had travelled. I quickly made my way back to the pier, and within minutes the Hansom was unloaded. I made my way back to the shop, and was ready for Milady as she stepped out of the door. Her delight upon seeing the cab, and the look which she bestowed upon me is worth more to me than the pay I receive.

The architects of Caledon must be commended with the establishment of the roadways in the newer regions. It makes travelling by Hansom so much easier than having to straddle the railway track in some of the older ones. We proceeded North from the shop, and made our way into Caledon Downs. Had I studied the map beforehand, I could have taken a more direct route from Southend into the Downs and straight up from there into Tamrannoch. As it was, we took the Western North Road as distinct from the Eastern North Road which would have been the direct route. Milady enjoyed the ride, and was most impressed with the hills in the Downs, and so didn't mind at all that I took a circuitous route via Caledon Glengarry which deposited us back on to the road which we were originally on.

In using the roads, it makes the border crossing a lot less fraught. I never mind being ejected from my airship as the result of a turbulent crossing, but when travelling with Milady, I'd never forgive myself if she suffered any sort of injury.

The Countess was enjoying the journey tremendously, and when we came across a vehicle that had apparantly crashed on the railway line in Tamrannoch she immediately alerted the authorities, happy to do her civic duty. Milady resisted the temptation to visit the site of her old home in the region, for fear that the memory of her life before the Embrace might prove too painful.

From Tamrannoch, we crossed into the Moors, and I could see that her spirits lifted considerably as she appreciated the ambiance of the region. Upon passing the cemetery we noticed a young man, loitering. Having received no instruction from milady to do otherwise, I continued following the track and we made our way into Caledon's capital, Victoria City. I drove us around the centre, and we stopped at the rear of the Co-operative having almost completed the circuit. Milady was wishing to purchase some outside work clothes for me, ideal for tending the gardens in Winterfell. My attention was attracted by the sight of a very nice set of leather chairs. I thought they would make a very nice replacement for some of the seating in the Clan Motherhouse, as well as my private quarters there.

I paid the attendant, and arranged for the chairs to be delivered to the Motherhouse, and then climbed aboard the Hansom again to make our way North. Milady leaned forward as I climbed, her eyes glistening in the light of the street lamps. "Janus, I thirst" she said breathily. My face a fixed mask of neutrality, I took my seat and we made our way back onto the Moors. The young man was still there, not paying much heed to his surroundings. I drew alongside and Milady skipped from the cab. Even from where I was sitting I could smell the alcohol upon his breath, and he swayed slightly where he stood. Milady smiled at him and murmured something to him. I heard her say how dangerous it was for him to be about such a place on his own after dark, especially in the condition he was in. She then guided him to sit upon the grass, and leaning him against the cemetery railings leaned forward and buried her face against his neck. I saw his eyes widen and his body stiffen, and then relax as Milady stroked his face. I could hear the delight in his groans, and I closed my eyes as the inevitable feeling of envy flowed through me.

Feeling the Hansom tip slightly as the Countess climbed aboard, I opened my eyes and saw the young man sleeping with a most wistful look upon his face. He would have no memory of this encounter, and if he did, should thank whatever deity he worships that he had met Milady this night, and not one of another clan, for he would not have seen the morning if he had.

We made our way in silence North out of the city into the countryside of Caledon Carntaigh, narrowly missing an oncoming train as we did so. Milady laughed with delight as I coaxed the horse to abruptly change its course. We then had a nice drive through Mayfair, Penzance, Morgaine and into Brigadoon. We both smiled as we passed the old property as we made our way alongside the track into Cape Wrath. Again Milady found it delightful the way we flew down the steps in Cape Wrath and I then pulled up by the jetty. We jumped off the Hansom and I stretched my legs. A glaze appeared in Milady's eyes and I knew she was communing with her Seneschal. Our quiet cruise to Winterfell would have to be postponed, she had to return to the Motherhouse. She instructed me to arrange for the Hansom to be lodged at a coach house and to follow her when I had completed my task. With a nod of her head, a portal appeared before her. She then looked at me and my heart leaped as a most wonderful smile appeared on her face, and to me, the whole region filled with light brighter than the day from which she hides. She mouthed the words 'Thank you', I nodded in return, unable to hide my delight and she stepped into the portal and disappeared.

Interview with the Vampire

I was instructed by the Countess to speak to a journalist to arrange a time for an interview to take place. It appears that the leader of another clan, having spent a very enjoyable evening with Milady, recommended her as the subject of an interview when the journalist friend of his wanted to conduct an interview with a 'Vampire Queen'. It is gratifying to know that others hold her in a similar high regard as myself.
Upon speaking to the journalist, Mr Voom, I couldn't help but notice his good manners, something that would surely help him in his contact with Milady, as they are something that she prizes very highly indeed.
The interview was set and Mr Voom arrived at the Motherhouse a little late due to a crash. I now post the transcript of the meeting with Mr Voom's very kind permission.

Janus Fotherington: Welcome sir
Celeron Voom: ty ^-^
Janus Fotherington: If you'd like to follow me please?
Celeron Voom: sure ^-^
Janus Fotherington: Mr Voom Milady
Rachel Aldrich: thank you Janus
Celeron Voom: * bows head*
Rachel Aldrich: Welcome Mr Voom, enter freely and of your own will
Celeron Voom: good to meet you at last
LauraAnne Sheridan: hello Celeron
Rachel Aldrich smiles
Celeron Voom: hello laura ^-^
Janus Fotherington: If you'd like to sit in the chair to my left sir?
Lone Spitteler: welcome Celeron
Celeron Voom: sure
Rachel Aldrich: Please be seated
Cinder Silverspar: Greetings Cleron
Celeron Voom: hey lone ^-^
Janus Fotherington: Drink sir?
Celeron Voom: no thank you , but thanks
Janus Fotherington bows
Janus Fotherington: Very well sir
Rachel Aldrich: ty Janus
Rachel Aldrich: I was sorry to hear of your accident Mr Voom
Rachel Aldrich: I trust you are well enough?
Celeron Voom: my lady i must apoligize up front , my internet is acting very strange so if i crash is it alright if i give you the other questions in notcard if our times dont meet
Rachel Aldrich: Of course my Dear
Celeron Voom: im fine its just my internet , but thanks , and a very lovly home you have
Rachel Aldrich smiles "Thank you, it suits us very well indeed"
Celeron Voom: I will ask you just a few questions , if you dont mind ^-^
Rachel Aldrich: Certainly
Celeron Voom: first what is your job as the vampire queen
Rachel Aldrich: It's more of a vocation than a job... my prime responsibility is in the well-being and welfare of all my childer within the clan
Celeron Voom: ok so are you more like a mother to your clan
Rachel Aldrich: Yes, that is precisely it, my childer all refer to me as 'Mother'
Celeron Voom: very cool , what is your prime duties as the mother of the clan
Rachel Aldrich: As I've mentioned, looking after my childer, it involves ensuring that they are kept well fed... it is very harmful to them if they don't feed regularly
Rachel Aldrich: I also have some interaction with other clan leaders
Rachel Aldrich: I am the focus of the clan if you will
Celeron Voom: ok i understand
Celeron Voom: tell me a bit about your clan
Rachel Aldrich nods
Rachel Aldrich: The name of our clan is Liberi Atrum, which literally means Children of Darkness....
Rachel Aldrich: We started as a coven within another clan, but felt that we should strike out on our own and declared ourselves a clan
Celeron Voom: very cool
Rachel Aldrich: I have some 60 childer all linked to me via the bloodline
Celeron Voom: wow , so just to ask what makes your clan diffrent from all the others
LauraAnne Sheridan smiles
Rachel Aldrich smiles "A lot of the other clans tend to concentrate on numbers..."
Rachel Aldrich: They are only concerned with being the biggest...
Rachel Aldrich: to them that equates to being the best, but we don't feel that way....
Rachel Aldrich: We are a clan that puts quality over quantity...
Rachel Aldrich: We are an RP clan, first and foremost...
Rachel Aldrich: we are a family...
Celeron Voom: brillantly put
Rachel Aldrich: I look out for my childer, and we all support each other
Lone Spitteler: nods
Celeron Voom: ok the next question i wanted to ask was did you start as a normal vampire and moved as queen or was that your title you were given
Rachel Aldrich: I started as a normal vampire.... though my history before being a vampire was that of an aristocrat....
Rachel Aldrich: but I didn't bring anything with me to this new life other than my own values....
Rachel Aldrich: but the person that Embraced me with the Dark Gift valued me and as the Princess of her clan soon bestowed titles upon me
Celeron Voom: very nice
Rachel Aldrich smiles
Celeron Voom: what is the diffrence from a rp vampire and vampire stories
Celeron Voom: or movies i mean
Rachel Aldrich: Goodness, now there's a question and a half.....
Rachel Aldrich: There are a lot of different versions of vampires within fiction and movies....[Rachel Aldrich: I would say that an RP vampire has to be true to the essence of the established lore, and above all be consistant....
Rachel Aldrich: I myself, as an 'old' vampire, have to watch out for the daylight in this world
Celeron Voom: k
Rachel Aldrich: the younger ones do not... they can walk in the light....
Rachel Aldrich: But I always make sure that I wear a cloak and hood if I venture out during the day....
Celeron Voom: very interesting
Rachel Aldrich: the daily cycles within this world are geared towards more hours of daylight, there are three hours of daylight to one hour of darkness....
Rachel Aldrich: I fortunately have my private residence in a region where it is permanent twilight/night
Celeron Voom: cool
Rachel Aldrich arches eyebrow "Very"
Celeron Voom: ok you answered the first questions brillantly , now its time for personal questions 8 not too personal , just your avi*
Celeron Voom: *
Rachel Aldrich: of course Dear
Celeron Voom: what brought you to bloodlines
Rachel Aldrich: I came across it by chance... I was familiar with 'The Thirst' HUD and when I decided to try that one in preference to one that I'd had previously I was VERY pleasantly surprised to find that the Bloodlines had been added to it
LauraAnne Sheridan: Mother was a vampire quite sometime before this system as well
Celeron Voom: what was the best day for you as a queen
LauraAnne Sheridan: as were many of us
Rachel Aldrich: Best day had to be when we declared Liberi Atrum as Clan
LauraAnne Sheridan smiles
Celeron Voom: ^-^
Celeron Voom: have you ever had any bad days as a queen
LauraAnne Sheridan shifts uncomfortably
Celeron Voom: im sorry , if you dont want to you dont have to answer that
Rachel Aldrich ponders "I think I have had some disappointing moments... but it has never been a 'bad day' as such"
Celeron Voom: k
Celeron Voom: when you rp is there a famous vampire or vampire you like to use as a infulnce
Rachel Aldrich: No, I can't say there is one that I could instantly say "Yes, I want to be like them"....
Rachel Aldrich: I'm very familiar with some of the famous creations, but I see this aspect as another side of me.....
Rachel Aldrich: As has been said in one popular vampire fiction... Vampires are like the person they were, only more so
Celeron Voom: very well put
Rachel Aldrich smiles
Celeron Voom: now you finished the hard part and time for my fun and last questions
Rachel Aldrich smiles
Celeron Voom: cat or dogs
Rachel Aldrich: cats
Celeron Voom: k me too lol
Celeron Voom: fav music
Rachel Aldrich: All types.... Evanescence , Enigma, Beatles, classical... could go on for ages
Celeron Voom smiles " ok do you perfer art or fashion "
Rachel Aldrich: Art
Celeron Voom: last one do you have any tips for any vampires starting out
Rachel Aldrich: Yes, find yourself a very good mentor, someone that is prepared to show you what it means to be vampire, and help you grow... too many are just bitten, drained and left discarded by the wayside to fend for themselves.....

New Home

We've been in the new home in Winterfell for a fortnight now, and I've got all the boxes unpacked. The stables have been rebuilt after having been transferred from Caledon Brigadoon, but I think I need to do a little more with the outside area.
The Countess loves Winterfell. It is a wonderous land where it is permanent twilight/night so it is so much more liberating for her to be able to walk about outside without having to wear her cloak and hood all the time. Being an older vampire, she has to be wary of the sun. So many of the new youngbloods about these days don't have to worry about it.. but then, I can't see them lasting all that long anyway.
The transportation of Milady's goods (including a most valuable cask of blood) was ably performed by a local Captain of her acquaintance. Unfortunately for me, his men took one look at the Tower, put everything down just outside the door, and made an hasty exit. It was moving her coffin all the way to the top tower that was the hardest for me, but she does so enjoy the sea view from there.

Good staff are hard to find

The Countess has always said that she could never replace me. She values my dedication, my hard work, honesty and dilligence. And frankly, I'm cheap. What do you do when you're a vampire and can potentially live forever? That's a lot of staff interviews you have to go through every 40 or 50 years. So, Milady has decided she's going to save herself a lot of time, (and a bob or two in the process) and drain me.

In case you're unfamiliar with the ways of the Vampire, let me elucidate. Vampires need blood to live. They bite a person, puncturing an artery in the process, and drink... and drink...... and drink. Sometimes, they just have a 'nip' (Vampire humour), and only take about a quarter of a litre, but other times, they'll go the whole hog and drain them dry. Rather than a dry husk being left on the floor, the drained person actually experiences a white flash and sense of euphoria, and is then a revenant. This is what Milady has in mind for me.... long lasting servant, all undead, but no craving for blood, hence: no competition.

As you can see by the marks on my neck, she's sampled the stock before. But this time, it all goes. Now, just to give you some more information that might come in useful later, if Milady were to feed me some transformed blood (blood taken from a human, and then changed in the vampire's system) known as vital blood, I could then go on to become a vampire myself. But I'd need a lot of this. In fact I'd need all that was taken, put back. A whole 5 litres. There would then be lots of black and red clouds floating about me, and poof! A vampire!

BUT... if I had a little vital blood from her, and then she took all of it back.... that's when you end up with the drained husk on the floor.

Look at her, she is beautiful. There has got to be worse things in this world than having a really beautiful aristocratic vampire biting your neck and sucking at your blood. I had adored her for years at this point, I'd started in her service as a young man and devotedly gone about my duties... and now she was going to hold me, very, very close indeed. Those lovely lips were going to brush against my ear, her breath would tease the goosebumps up on my neck. I'd smell her perfume, look into the beautiful big blue eyes and feel the ultimate high when she bit on my neck. Of course, it would have been nice had she done this years ago, and then I would have remained a young man... but, better late than never. Bite me you wonderful creature, bite me!

A pain then pierces my chest, and having witnessed this so many times before, I knew what was happening. She was using her spike, and would drain the blood from me more quickly, and a LOT less intimately. Blast.

Her nose pressed against my head, my blood pumped through the spike and into a tube which fed straight into her arm, and the process was well under way. I started to feel light-headed, and although I was starting to faint, I felt sure I heard her say "Dear, sweet Janus... " but then, I fainted and knew no more, until I reawoke, a revenant.
